History Syllabus from Form One to Form Four

Form One:

  1. Introduction to Tanzanian History:
  • Students learn about the pre-colonial societies in Tanzania.

  • Emphasis on understanding the cultural diversity and traditions of various ethnic groups.
  1. Introduction to World History:
  • Basic overview of major ancient civilizations such as Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, and Rome.
  • Introduction to the medieval period and early modern age in Europe and other parts of the world.
  1. Skills Development:
  • Basic historical research skills, including how to use primary and secondary sources.
  • Introduction to historical analysis and interpretation.

Form Two:

  1. Colonial History of Africa:
  • Detailed study of the European scramble and partition of Africa.
  • Impact of colonial rule on African societies, economies, and cultures.
  • Resistance movements and early nationalist activities.
  1. History of East Africa:
  • Focus on the history of East African countries, including Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda.
  • Exploration of the socio-political developments during the colonial period.
  1. Global History Topics:
  • Further exploration of major world events and their impact on Africa and beyond.
  • Comparative studies of different colonial experiences in Asia, Americas, and Africa.

Form Three:

  1. Nationalism and Independence Movements:
  • In-depth study of the rise of nationalism in Africa.
  • Detailed examination of the independence struggles in Tanzania and other African countries.
  • Contributions of key African leaders to the independence movements.
  1. Post-Independence Africa:
  • Analysis of the challenges and achievements of newly independent African states.

  • Impact of these events on Tanzania and the wider African continent.

Form Four:

  • Comprehensive study of specific historical periods or themes relevant to Tanzanian and global history.
  • For example, detailed examination of Tanzanian history during specific decades or critical events.
  1. Comparative History:
  • Comparative analysis of historical developments in different regions or between different historical periods.
  • Examination of similarities and differences in socio-economic, political, and cultural contexts.
  1. Skills Enhancement:
  • Advanced historical research skills, including extended essay writing.
  • Emphasis on critical thinking, historical interpretation, and evaluation of historical sources.

Assessment:

  • Continuous Assessment: Includes classwork, homework, quizzes, and projects throughout the year.
  • Mid-Term and End-of-Term Exams: Assess students’ understanding of topics covered in each term.
  • National Exams: National Form Two Examinations and the National Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) at the end of Form Four, which includes history as one of the subjects.

Additional Activities:

Goals:
