This is an achievement test offered to candidates who have completed four years of secondary education.

Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE)

The Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) is administered annually during the first week of November. It is a crucial national exam for students completing their four-year secondary education in Tanzania.

Objectives of the CSEE

The CSEE serves several important purposes:

• Evaluate Academic Achievement: It assesses students’ knowledge and understanding across various secondary school subjects.
• Measure Practical Application Skills: The exam tests how well students can apply their learning to solve real-life social, political, economic, and technological challenges.
• Identify Future Pathways: The results help determine students’ eligibility for advanced secondary education (A-Level) or vocational and training institutions.
• Promote National Development: By encouraging skill development, the CSEE supports both personal growth and national progress.

A CSEE holder is expected to demonstrate strong abilities in comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation across multiple contexts and tasks.

Eligibility Criteria for CSEE Candidates

To sit for the CSEE, a candidate must meet one of the following conditions:

• Have completed four years of secondary education at a government or registered private school.
• Have passed either the Form Two National Assessment (FTNA) or the Qualifying Test (QT).
• Be a private candidate repeating the exam, provided they meet the registration requirements.
