Institutional Background

Ruaha Catholic University (RUCU) is a full-fledged university established in 2014 and located in Iringa Municipality, in the Southern Highlands of Tanzania. RUCU is owned by the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC), a private, secular institution open to all people, regardless of nationality, ethnicity, gender, religion, political affiliation, or station in life. The university operates under the University Act, 2005, and follows the guidelines provided by the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) and the Catholic Church Policy on Higher Education Institutions – Ex Corde Ecclesiae. Its motto is “Academic Excellence and Moral Finesse.” The university consists of five faculties and one institute.

Duties and Responsibilities

Vice Chancellor

• The Chief Executive Officer of the university, responsible for ensuring efficiency, effectiveness, and good governance.
• Provides academic and administrative leadership to the university.
• Reports directly to the University Council and Board of Trustees on university management.
• Leads the continuous development and review of the university’s mission, vision, objectives, and policies.
• Coordinates the development of policies, plans, and programs in line with the university’s strategic plan.
• Mobilizes resources, both internally and externally, for university programs.
• Works collaboratively with university personnel to achieve the institution’s objectives.
• Supervises the senior management team overseeing academic, financial, and administrative functions.
• Ensures the security and welfare of the university.
• Promotes the Catholic ethos within and outside the university.

Deputy Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration

• Reports to the Vice Chancellor on all matters related to finance and administration, and indirectly to the Senate, Council, Chancellor, Board of Trustees, and Tanzania Episcopal Conference.
• Assists the Vice Chancellor in managing the university’s finance and administration functions.
• Oversees planning and development within the university.
• Supervises the senior management team responsible for administrative and financial functions.
• Responsible for managing the university’s budget and accounting system.
• Ensures sound management and fiscal control within the university.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice Chancellor or University Council.

Qualifications

• Applicants must be at the rank of associate professor or professor with experience in leadership roles in higher education institutions.
