GBV Social Worker – Empowerment Assistant
Founded in 1956, The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a humanitarian, non-governmental, non-profit organization providing direct assistance to conflict-affected populations – refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs) and host communities – in more than 40 countries around the world. DRC has been implementing emergency response projects in Tanzania since the onset of the Burundi refugee crisis in 2015 in three refugee camps in the Kigoma Region at the border with Burundi. DRC’s integrated projects for refugees, asylum seekers and host communities comprise sectors such as Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM), Protection (CBP, PSN, GBV, CP and Legal), Shelter and infrastructure, and Economic Recovery.
Overall purpose of the role:
The GBV Social Worker-Empowerment Assistant works as part of DRC’s team in Tanzania, under the direct supervision of the GBV Team Leader and the guidance and support of the Protection Coordinator. This position is based in Nduta/Nyarugusu refugee camp/Host community, depending on programmatic needs.
The GBV Social worker- Empowerment Assistant is responsible for supporting the quality and timely implementation of GBV activities in compliance with DRC standards in the assigned refugee camp. This includes empowering women/Men groups’ supervision and training for the incentive staff and women/Men/adolescent girls/boys’ groups on GBV issues affecting women/Men and adolescent girls/boys in the assigned refugee camp. She/he will work closely with other GBV Staff members, other DRC sectors, and partners. The position reports to the GBV Team Leader..

Education:
• University degree in social sciences, law, social work, international development, or other relevant field from a recognized institution.
Languages:
Excellent proficiency in written and spoken English, and Swahili. Kirundi is an advantage.
