We are looking for a motivated and highly experienced individual to fill the position of:

Business Reporter – The Citizen (1 Post)

Purpose:
The Business Reporter ensures that the business news submitted is factual, of public interest, detailed, and well-researched, in conformity with journalistic ethics, editorial objectives, and house style.

Main Responsibilities:

• Develop reports and write news and feature stories for the title assigned, ensuring no major rewrites or additional reports are needed.
• Attend assigned news functions, take notes, and carry out interviews, checking facts, and making audio/visual recordings as necessary.
• Write news or features at own initiative, choice, and judgment, or as directed by the Business Editor or Section Editor.
• Ensure that the material reflects a thorough understanding of MCL’s style of journalism as defined in the editorial policy guidelines, house style, and the journalistic code of ethical journalism.
• Research and provide background information to make the copy complete.
• Brief the News Editor on gathered stories and write selected ones within set deadlines.
• Follow up on news leads and maintain close contacts with news sources.
• Continually build a contact list and demonstrate its value with consistent exclusive reports or information.
• Respond promptly to news breaks.
• Ensure the correctness of facts, content, and style of news materials.
• Cooperate closely with photographers to order pictures for the issues covered.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

• Academic: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
• Experience: 2-3 years of working experience.
